As the new Chief Experience Officer at Walter Reed, Catherine collaborated and guided senior leaders through a change in culture in utilizing available data to better focus lines of effort for change and creating a priority around staff experience. These efforts contributed to an over 10 point gain in the organizational response to the question “Would you recommend Walter Reed as a place to work?”

Throughout her career, Catherine continually focused on mentorship and education and was repeatedly given awards for this work. At the culmination of her career, as both the General Pediatrics Consultant to the Army Surgeon General and the Commandant for the School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University, she directly contributed to the education of the next generation of military medical professionals through her dedication to direct mentorship and improvement of global leadership education.

Catherine was instrumental in the creation of the first Patient and Family Partnership Council at Walter Reed with the goal of putting a human voice to the already collected data. This Council helped create a different viewpoint and was able to better focus the needed work to improve the patient experience.

Guided by subject matter experts in the field, using proven human-centered design techniques, Catherine collaborated to help create a unique organizational focused dashboard to better analyze and utilize the large amount of data being collected from patients. This dashboard helped to make the data more focused and much more usable at the level of the front line manager.
